Collection: Mixed Media Series

Each of these prints began as a physical painting on wood panel—some of them quite large. I rarely start with a clear idea of what creature will emerge. Instead, I begin by laying down broad sweeps of acrylic paint using whatever flat tool feels right that day: a palette knife, drywall spatula, squeegee, or even an old credit card.

From there, I search the abstract for hidden shapes, then “carve” the creature out using tools just as varied—ballpoint pens, wood carving tools, needle tools, or the edge of a palette knife. Once the form takes shape, I slowly build up layers of acrylic, ink, and finally colored pencil to bring the spirit of the painting to life.

Because I don’t begin with a strict plan, these works allow me to fully embrace the physical process—one that has often been deeply healing. I created five of these pieces shortly after my second miscarriage.

They may not share the same aesthetic as my digital work, but I hope you find the same raw beauty in them that I do.
