Stencil Series

 Much like my mixed media work, this series is all about process and play. These are prints of larger original pieces that began with hand-cut vinyl stencils of creatures and shapes. I place the stencils over wood panels already washed in layers of acrylic color, then paint over the entire surface, working within a carefully chosen color palette.

Once the middle layers feel complete, I peel away the stencils to reveal the shapes beneath. From there, I add detail to both the creatures and their backgrounds using colored pencil, embracing a childlike, instinctive mark-making style that brings the whole piece to life.

I began this series when I was about five months pregnant with my first child, and it holds a special place in my heart.
